MAGAZINE SUBMISSIONS
WWBL accepts submissions of poetry, short fiction, and creative nonfiction from female- and non-binary-identifying writers. Your work need not pertain directly to concepts of feminism or experiences of gender; we simply want to read and promote the voices of women*.
We accept work from all over the world, as well as bilingual submissions (your chosen language accompanied by an English translation).
Bilingual submissions will be considered: one piece and the word limit mentioned below will be applied per each half of the submission rather than both halves together. Works that blend two or more languages are also eligible, accompanied by a variation of the work with English translation if English is not already one of the included languages.
We love work that presents a unique perspective or slips the reader a slice of your inner world. We don't exclusively look for professional writers who've been published in countless journals (though that's fantastic--good for you!); we want the real stories, thoughts, and reflections of women*, however raw. Though pieces can be sent unedited, all selected work will be reviewed and notes given to you for revision. This process does not guarantee that your work will be published.
We like pieces that speak from your lived experience and from the human condition, and that grapple with the complexities and nuances of life.
If you're new to writing and not sure where to start, we offer events to guide you in honing your craft. Additionally, our editors love to talk shop and develop ideas—reach out to Cecilia (fiction and creative nonfiction) or Aya (poetry) at the email address below.
Guidelines:
Poetry: up to 5 per submission, each up to 400 words
Flash Fiction/Nonfiction: up to 3 per submission, each up to 600 words
Fiction (short story) & Creative Nonfiction (personal essay, memoir, book/film/music review): 1 per submission, up to 2,000 words
Include a short bio (25-75 words) featuring your preferred name, details about yourself or your projects, and any social media handles and/or desired pronouns.
Send submissions in MS Word or PDF format to wwblsubmissions@gmail.com, listing the genre(s) and number of pieces.
All publications are unpaid. We ask that you refrain from simultaneous submissions as we respond in a timely manner.
