Poetry: elves
By: natasha aidoo
i didn’t think i would make it
but i did!
breakfast with cherries and butterflies
in the midst of colours
birds as soundtrack of an achievement
decorated with tears
of pride
of sadness
of determination
you carry yourself
with hymns and myths
in your eyes
i’m looking for a river
my schedule says
sunday will be the day
the breeze will take me there
i catch the wind
and sing with relief
i have no fear
in those instants
i exist beyond
infinity
some days
i blossom
and
others i curl up
in my
anxiety tries to linger.
i ground myself
relying
in magical worlds
where
elves and fairies
invite me for drinks
that taste
of relief
