Poetry: For the Love of the Sun
Installment III of Through a Prism
By: Amelia Zora Willow
She loved being in the sun
proud of all the freckles
strewn across her face
like the stars sparkling in the night sky
like Icarus
she loved the sun too much
not caring for the sunburns
and accepting them with gratitude as the sun’s gifts to her
believing that it fanned her inner fire
oblivious to how she was doomed
to be engulfed in its ruthless flames
