Poetry: Another Ending
By: Thea Elmsley
I know it will be ok
But for now, let me cry
I know that this inconvenience
Will not cause me to die
At the end of the day
It’s not the end of the world
But hearing your words
Has made my stomach start to swirl
It isn’t enough
To make me hysterical or ill
But it’s also too much
To pretend I haven’t just stood still
To catch my breath
When I heard what you said
And had to sit for a while
Whilst that dread slowly spread
There’s nothing more to say
When the stakes aren’t that high
But it doesn’t stop the wrench
Of that final goodbye
Incredibly soon
This feeling will fade
I won’t notice but one day
My mind will have strayed
To a new familiar stranger
Who’ll then occupy my time
And then more starts and ends
Which will make my heart sigh
I know that this inconvenience
Will not cause me to die
I know it will be ok
But for now, let me cry
